#FamilyDinner – Baraka Cafe Recap

Kabobs at Baraka Cafe

Baraka Cafe is the kind of place that takes you by surprise. “Wait… We have one of these in Boston?”

This living-room-sized cafe was tucked away in a residential neighborhood, a five minute walk from Central Square. The unassuming exterior reminded me of an abandoned fabric shop more than a place to eat.

But then you step inside into a candle-lit room, take in the aromas, the rustic decor, the homely ambiance – and then realize that you just saved $600 on a flight to North Africa (!).

The lemonade, as we had been told, was exceptional. A tad too sweet, but the combination of rose petals, mint, and spices lived up to the hype.

The rest of the food mirrored the lemonade its intensity of flavor. We ordered kabobs, couscous, flatbread, salad with a tamari-like dressing, and the best chocolate torte I’ve ever had… for just over $20 a person.

The restaurant was filling up by the time we arrived at 7:00, and there was a line out the door by 8. Keep in mind, that was on a Tuesday.

So if you enjoy exotic, unconventional dining, add Bakara to your list of “must try” places. You won’t be disappointed.

[Note] Sadly, the photos we took didn’t make it out of my camera. Win-Mac issues… The one above was pulled from Google.
