After successfully scaring off the leading competition (see: no shows by BostInno, Boundless Learning, CampusLive and defending champions EverTrue) through multiple twitter trash-talking battles, they employed the same approach to rattle their challengers, most of whom have already signed up for the next event with the sole goal of defeating the defending champs.  Luckily for them, they won’t have to wait long.

We are happy to announce that Jeff Avallon and his team at IdeaPaint have issued a formal challenge to everyone in the Boston start-up scene.  If my instincts serve me correctly, I don’t think ideas are the only things they will be painting the walls of Gemvara with.

Beer and food will be provided.  All you need to bring is your A game, a plan to get home that doesn’t include driving and for legal reasons an ID that proves you are 21+.

“Case in point: I went to the best entrepreneur-event ever in January.  Hands down, the best (and I’ve been to a lot).  It’s called the Dart Family dinner, organized by Flybridge’s Victoria Song here in Boston and sponsored by a different company each time.  It’s a dinner event that happens monthly to bring entrepreneurs and investors together.

On the surface, the concept behind the dinner I attended wasn’t unique, but the execution was.  We were seated for dinner at tables of 4 people with a good mix of entrepreneurs and investors at each table.  This allowed us to really talk with everyone and build connections that lasted beyond 3 minute conversations. Before and after dinner, people mingled, and I was amazed by just how helpful people were.  According to DartBoston co-founder Cort Johnson, the premise of Dart is that everyone should leave the dinner having gotten to know almost everyone in the room.  And, it really showed — I had never been to a mingling event where everyone was so pro-active in making sure that everyone knew each other.  I’m sorry to say — although there are lots of private events in the Bay Area, tight-knit networking events (with the purpose of meeting and getting to know new entrepreneurs) just don’t happen in the Valley.”

This month we have Raymer Maguire, a student at Bentley University pitching his company Boston’s DD.  Boston’s DD is exactly what you think it is… You drink, They drive.  Imagine you end up socializing a little too much on any given night and question your ability to pull back into your driveway or parallel park on the street.  Boston’s DD is there to save you!

When that time calls to head home, call these guys up or plan ahead of time to have them pick you up.  They arrive in teams of two, drive you to your destination safe and sound and head off into the night to save the next inebriated driver from a DUI.
